The Barn Series Festival and Live Nude Plays feature projects
originally work-shopped at LAByrinth's annual Summer Intensive, and
represent the next stage of play development at LAByrinth Theater
Company. While each is a reading series (actors hold scripts in
hand), many projects have added production values such as sound,
lighting, and blocking. The aim of the readings is to nurture new
works at differing stages of development, so each piece is presented in
the manner that best serves its needs.
The Barn Series features plays that are more traditional or realistic
in structure whereas Live Nude plays features work that is more
experimental in form or presentation. Each festival allows artists to
assess how general New York audiences connect with the work, and gives
them a valuable opportunity to further shape and refine it as a step
towards full production, while giving audiences the opportunity to
participate in the development of original theater and see LAByrinth's
future seasonal productions in their nascent stages.

LABYRINTH THEATER COMPANY was
founded in 1992 by a group of actors who wanted to push their artistic
limits, hone their craft, and create new plays that truly reflected
their heritage and experience. Today, LAByrinth is comprised of almost
100 established and emerging theater artists from a wide array of
cultural perspectives. Led by
Artistic Director John Ortiz,
co-Artistic Director Philip Seymour Hoffman and
co-Artistic Director and Executive Director John Gould Rubin,
the inclusive, multicultural ensemble encourages all members to write,
act, direct, and design, and supports multidisciplinary growth and
exploration in the creation of daring new work that celebrates the
diversity of its New York City home.
Currently presenting its 16th Season, LAByrinth is in residence at The
Public Theater. Remaining productions this season include: the
world premiere of
UNCONDITIONAL by Brett C. Leonard, directed by Mark Wing-Davey; and two developmental productions:
Penalties & Interest by Rebecca Cohen, directed by John Gould Rubin and
Sweet Storm
by Scott Hudson, directed by Padraic Lillis. Over the years, LAByrinth
has developed hundreds of plays and staged 48 productions in New York
City. Learn more about LAByrinth at
